Resource Forecasts

You can set resource forecasts, which work in the same way as energy budgets. Once you have defined resource budgets for your asset, you can compare the forecasts to the actual monthly resource available.

Forecasts are available as signals and can be coupled and plotted with other signals in Greenbyte on your dashboards and in Data Studio.

Tip

Combined with budgeted and actual energy signals, forecasts provide a powerful tool to understand the potential reasons behind energy losses.

The example below shows the solar irradiation forecast plotted with reference irradiation, energy budget, and energy export. This makes it possible to quickly see if underperformance is due to less irradiation than expected. A similar widget can be created showing the long term wind forecast for a turbine.

An example widget showing irradiation forecast plotted against reference irradiation, budget, and energy export.

You can define long term wind forecasts for your turbines. Once you have defined the forecast, it will be available as a signal called Long Term Wind in Average Over Time widgets.

If you select the Wind Speed signal in the Key Metrics widget it will also show you the difference between actual wind speed and the long term wind forecast for the selected period.

This can be useful to give you an idea on how the actual resource compares to your expectations.

To add a wind forecast:

  1. Go to Administrate > Wind Turbines.

  2. In the turbine list, find the turbine that needs a forecast.

  3. In the turbine's row, click the thee dot menu and select Edit forecasts.

  4. The Edit forecasts dialog will appear.

  5. Add the monthly forecast values.

  6. Click Save.

Tip

You can easily copy a forecast to other assets in your portfolio in the Edit Forecasts dialog. Use the asset selector in the Copy field to choose the assets that you want to copy the forecast to. Then click Copy to.

The following resource forecasts are available for solar energy assets:

  • Irradiation – this forecast can be plotted in Sum Over Time widgets using the Solar Irradiation Forecast signal.

  • Ambient Temperature – this forecast will soon be available in Sum Over Time widgets using the Ambient Temperature Forecast signal.

  • Performance Ratio – this forecast is available in Sum Over Time widgets using the Performance Index Forecast signal. The forecast is also used to calculate two Performance Index signals: Potential Power PR Forecast and Potential Power PR Forecast Simulated Module. It is also used to calculate the Performance Ratio Budget Deviation, which is used in the Budget Deviation Waterfall widget.

To add resource forecasts to an asset:

  1. Go to Administrate > Devices.

  2. In the device list, find the device that needs a forecast.

  3. In the device's row, click the three dot menu and select Edit forecasts.
